Obituary for Irene Barbers
We are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague Irene Barbers. She died on January 8, 2025 at the age of 58 as a result of a traffic accident.
In addition to her responsibilities as head of the “Literature Management” department at the library of Forschungszentrum Jülich, Irene Barbers was also very involved in national and international librarianship, including as a member of the Executive Committee and as Director of COUNTER Metrics, on the Advisory Board of EZB/DBIS, in the establishment and development of the Open Access Monitor Germany, the Information Budget Focus Group - and as an important cornerstone in our Transform2Open project.
The project team mourns the loss of Irene Barbers. We have lost a very committed colleague with whom we worked together in a spirit of great trust. Irene Barbers enriched our project immensely with her high level of expertise, her open nature, and her reliable manner of working. We bid farewell to a highly valued and unique colleague whose death leaves a huge gap in our team.
The Central Library of Forschungszentrum Jülich commemorates Irene Barbers on its website and has set up an electronic book of condolences. COUNTER Metrics and open-access.network have also published obituaries.
Our condolences go to her family and all those who miss Irene Barbers.
The Transform2Open project team
